SUNY Cobleskill: Now Accepting Applications for Histotechnology Program Director

Faculty Position: HISTOTECHNOLOGY PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Job Description:

SUNY Cobleskill’s Histotechnology program, the only degree- granting accredited program in New York State, is the oldest in the country. It is also a State Licensure Qualifying program that specifically trains students to preserve tissue and prepare microscopic slides for pathologists to permit patient diagnosis and treatment. The program requires extensive field experience, with students completing a 400-hour internship at one of the 15 affiliate hospitals around the state.

We seek a full-time tenure-track faculty member to serve as the Program Director of the Histotechnician program.  As Program Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, planning, development and ongoing evaluation of the program.  The Program Director will be responsible for establishing and/or maintaining contractual agreements with clinical, pharmaceutical and veterinary histology laboratories for student clinical instruction. This will include cooperating with these laboratories to ensure that students are properly instructed, supervised, and evaluated during their clinical internship.

The candidate will respond to all inquiries concerning the program and will monitor, evaluate and assess student performance; provide academic advising; and evaluate and revise the curriculum as needed.  The faculty member will assure that the program fulfills all accreditation requirements and will be responsible for maintaining the accreditation of the program. Furthermore, in addition to teaching the core program courses, the successful candidate will be expected to teach other courses, such as Microscopic Anatomy and Microtechniques; and supervise the clinical internships.

As Program Director, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain competency and currency in the field of Histotechnology as well as in teaching strategies and assessment methods; will serve as a member of the department and on College committees; and will perform other professional and program-related duties as required.


Requirements:

Master’s degree, ASCP certification as an HT or HTL and three years of experience in the field of Histotechology.

Applicants completing an advanced degree must have the degree conferred and/or semester hours completed by the time of appointment.

Experience teaching adult or college students.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to aforementioned qualifications, a Ph.D is preferred.

  • This position has a 10-month annual obligation.
  • Anticipated start date is August 2017.
  • This position offers full New York State benefits which are among the most comprehensive in the country. Salary range for this position is $50,000-$55,000.
